Making time for God

Making time for God

We live in a society that is obsessed with time, and we never seem to have enough of it. In the midst of the hustle and bustle, how do we make time for God?

Driving

Pray at all times.

God is ever-present in our lives. Prayers can be said at any time, day or night. Do it when you think about it. It doesn’t matter where you are or what you are doing.

Family praying at mealtime

Make it part of your routine.

As soon as you wake up, say a little prayer for the day. Make it a habit to say grace at mealtimes. Say a prayer before bed.

Church group

Make Christian pursuits a part of your social activities.

Start a Bible study or church-based small group. Join a Christian singles club. Attend social events at your church. Invite friends to go to church with you.

Woman reading Bible

Spend a few minutes a day with God’s word.

Read the Bible first thing in the morning or last thing at night, or during a break in the day. Bring a small Bible with you wherever you go, or keep a digital copy on your smartphone or tablet.

Remind yourself.

Post Bible quotes on your bathroom mirror or refrigerator. Purchase Christian artwork for your walls. Wear a cross necklace or pin. Keep your Bible someplace where you can see it. Listen to a Christian radio station.

Give thanks.

In the busyness of our days, it’s a good idea to stop, take a deep breath, and thank God that we are able to be busy. Jesus said, “I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly” (John 10:10b NIV). Let us give thanks for our abundant life by turning to the one who gave us life.
